Digital marketing specialist resume example that leads with results

A digital marketing resume reads like a performance report: hiring managers want to know which channels you’ve owned (SEO, paid search, paid social, email, content), with what budget, which tools and which metrics you moved. Saying you “manage social media” isn’t enough; showing that you lowered cost per lead on Meta Ads or that a content plan grew organic traffic is.

Context matters too: performance marketing for an e-commerce brand looks nothing like B2B demand generation or brand work at an agency. Order your sections around the role you want, link to a portfolio of campaigns and write carefully, because good writing is part of the job. If you haven’t worked in marketing yet, start with our guide to a resume with no experience.

Common keywords in digital marketing specialist job postings

These terms show up often in job postings for this role. If they truly describe you, use them with the same wording as the posting so both the recruiter and the applicant tracking system (ATS) can find them.

Tips for your digital marketing specialist resume

Quantify with each channel’s metrics, not adjectives

Every channel has its own language: in paid search and paid social it’s CPA, ROAS, CTR and budget managed; in SEO, non-branded organic traffic, page-one rankings and indexed pages; in email, click-through rate and attributed revenue. Always give the time frame and the starting point (“from 1.6% to 2.1% in six months”). If you can’t share a client’s numbers, use percentages.

Link to a portfolio of campaigns

A marketing portfolio doesn’t have to be visual: three or four short case studies with the challenge, channel, actions and results are enough, with screenshots of ads or dashboards and sensitive data hidden. Put the link at the top, next to your LinkedIn URL. In Mi Resumen you can add each case study to the projects section and publish your resume as a personal website at yourname.miresumen.com.

Separate what you decided from what you executed

Job postings range from hands-on roles (building campaigns, scheduling posts) to strategy roles (media plan, attribution model, annual budget). Make your level of ownership clear in every job: “set the bidding strategy” is not the same as “supported campaign management.” That precision keeps you from being screened out as overqualified or underqualified.

Tailor your digital marketing resume to the posting’s vocabulary

Recruiters and applicant tracking systems search for exact terms: GA4, not “the new Analytics”; Meta Ads, not just “Facebook”; and HubSpot, Semrush or Klaviyo if you’ve used them. Repeat the names that appear in the posting when they’re true for you, and work them into your experience, not just your skills section. How to do it without keyword stuffing: ATS-friendly resume.

Certifications help, but they don’t replace results

Certifications from Google Skillshop, HubSpot Academy or Meta Blueprint show a technical foundation and help for entry-level roles or career changes. List them in their own section with the official name and year. Once you have a few years of experience, one measurable win outweighs any badge, so don’t let them crowd out your campaigns.

Frequently asked questions

What should I put on a digital marketing resume with no experience?

Internships, personal projects and certifications. A website or blog you’ve grown in search, a small campaign you ran with your own budget, social media for a student club or nonprofit, or a class project with real data shows more than a list of courses. Explain what you did and what you learned from the numbers. More ideas in our guide to a resume with no experience.

Should I present myself as a generalist or a specialist?

It depends on the role. Small businesses and startups often want someone who can cover several channels; agencies and large companies hire specialists in SEO, paid media or lifecycle marketing. The usual approach is to show one strong channel and solid knowledge of the rest, what many hiring managers call a “T-shaped” marketer. Reflect that in your headline and resume summary, and reorder your skills for each application.

Can I include results from agency clients?

Yes, without revealing confidential information. The safe approach is to leave out the client’s name (“fashion e-commerce brand with 200 products”) and give percentages instead of absolute revenue. If you signed a nondisclosure agreement, respect it: hiring managers care about your method and the size of the change, not the client’s data.

Do I need a cover letter for a marketing job?

Not every posting asks for one, but in marketing it’s a chance to prove you can write for a specific audience. Mention something specific about the brand, such as its strongest channel or a recent campaign, and how you would build on it. Structure and examples in our guide on how to write a cover letter.

Which job title should I use: coordinator, specialist or manager?

Use the title that matches your actual scope, and the posting’s wording when it fits. At most companies, a coordinator supports and executes campaigns, a specialist owns one or more channels day to day, and a manager sets strategy and budget and often leads people. If your official title was unusual, keep it and add a clarifying one in parentheses, such as “Growth Hacker (Performance Marketing Specialist).”
