Housekeeper resume example for hotels, hospitals and offices

What matters most on a housekeeper resume doesn’t come from a diploma: that you’re trustworthy, show up on time and know how to clean each space with the right method and product. Cleaning contractors, hotels and hospitals look for experience in settings like theirs, knowledge of protocols and references who can vouch for you.

Each setting calls for different details. In offices, it’s cleaning routes, equipment (auto scrubbers, floor buffers, backpack vacuums) and discretion around documents and computers. In hospitals, it’s daily and terminal cleaning, disinfection and handling regulated medical waste. In hotels, it’s rooms per shift and teamwork with the executive housekeeper. In private homes, it’s trust, organization and often laundry and ironing.

The job goes by many names: housekeeper, room attendant, housekeeping aide, environmental services (EVS) technician in hospitals, janitor or custodian in offices and schools, and house cleaner in private homes. Use the one in the posting you’re answering.

Tips for your housekeeper resume

Say where you’ve cleaned and how

An office is not an operating room or a suite. For each job, include the type of space, the volume (square feet, rooms, floors) and how you worked: assigned routes, daily and terminal cleaning, a two-bucket mopping system, color-coded cloths. That detail shows you know the trade and helps you fit postings in a specific setting.

Name products and equipment precisely

Say which machines you run (walk-behind or ride-on auto scrubber, floor buffer, burnisher, backpack vacuum, carpet extractor, steam cleaner) and which floor care tasks you can do. Mention that you read labels and safety data sheets and follow dilution rates: to an employer, that means fewer accidents and less wasted product.

List your training, even short courses

A course on bloodborne pathogens, infection prevention or chemical safety adds value, especially in hospitals, nursing homes and kitchens. In healthcare, OSHA requires bloodborne pathogens training for staff who may be exposed to blood or other infectious materials, and hospital EVS departments value credentials such as CHEST from the Association for the Health Care Environment. List the name, hours and year of each course.

References matter as much as experience

In cleaning, especially in private homes and small businesses, trust decides everything. In the US, references usually go on a separate sheet rather than on the resume, so have two or three people ready (name, title, phone) who have agreed to take a call. If you’ve worked for families, a reference from them is the best proof of your work. If an employer asks for references up front, the Mi Resumen editor has its own References section.

Make your hours and shifts clear

Office cleaning often happens outside business hours; hotels are busiest in peak season; hospitals run around the clock on rotating shifts. Say in your summary which hours you can work, whether you accept part-time work or several sites and whether you have your own transportation. Our resume summary guide has short examples to help you write it.

Frequently asked questions

What do I put on a cleaning resume with no experience?

Include any related experience (volunteering, helping in a family business, running a household), courses you’ve taken, your availability and qualities you can prove, such as punctuality and discretion. A short, honest summary works better than a list of adjectives. You’ll find an outline in our guide to a resume with no experience.

How do I write a hotel housekeeping resume?

Give the approximate number of rooms you cleaned per shift, the type of hotel, whether you did checkouts and stayovers, public areas or laundry support, and the system you used to update room status. If you’ve filled in for a supervisor or the executive housekeeper, add it as an achievement. A second language for helping guests is also a plus.

Should I mention that I’m authorized to work in the US?

If you’re from another country and already authorized to work in the US, one line in your summary or contact section (“Authorized to work in the US”) answers a common employer question. Don’t include your Social Security number, immigration document numbers or copies of documents: you’ll show those for the Form I-9 once you’re hired.

How do I list part-time work in several private homes?

Group it into one entry, such as “Private Housekeeper, Multiple Households, 2020 — Present,” and describe the shared tasks and the number of families. That way your history looks continuous and organized. Add that references are available from the families who have agreed to give them.

How is a hospital housekeeping resume different from an office cleaning resume?

Hospitals value daily and terminal cleaning, disinfection with specific products, handling regulated medical waste, using PPE and teamwork with nursing. Offices value routes, floor care equipment and discretion. If you have both, put first the one closest to the posting. If you train to move into patient care someday, the CNA resume example will be a useful reference.
