Sales representative resume: account executive example and how to show results

A sales representative resume reads like a scorecard: hiring managers want to know how much you sell, to whom, over what sales cycle and whether you hit quota. Phrases like “results-driven” or “strong negotiator” convince no one without numbers behind them; “112% of a $1.4M annual quota” does.

The type of sale matters too. In B2B, prospecting, account management, negotiating with procurement and CRM discipline carry the most weight; in B2C, it’s volume, conversion rate and add-on sales. Make clear your industry, your product, your average deal size and whether you were opening new accounts or growing existing ones.

Below you’ll find a complete example for a B2B account executive, summaries for an entry-level sales development rep (SDR), a B2C seller moving into B2B and a key account manager, plus achievement bullets you can adapt to your industry.

Tips for your sales representative resume

Give your quota attainment with context

The first thing any sales manager asks is whether you hit your number. Give your attainment percentage, the target and the period (“112% of a $1.4M quota in 2025”), plus the size of your book or the accounts you opened. Rankings (“#2 of 14 reps”) and awards such as President’s Club also carry weight. If dollar amounts are confidential, use percentages or ranges. And don’t round up: sales numbers are easy to verify with references.

Make clear whether you sell to businesses or consumers

B2B and B2C share techniques, but not the sales cycle or the buyer. Spell out who you sell to (procurement, plant managers, executives, homeowners), your average deal size and how long your cycle runs, and say whether you worked inside or outside sales. If you’re moving from B2C to B2B, lead with negotiation, opportunity follow-up and CRM discipline.

Your sales representative resume summary is your first pitch

In sales, how you present yourself is part of the evaluation. A summary of three or four sentences with your industry, type of sale, a headline result and what you’re looking for works better than “self-starter” or “results-driven.” You’ll find examples and a simple structure in our resume summary guide.

Make practical requirements easy to spot

Outside sales postings often screen for a valid driver’s license, a clean driving record, a reliable vehicle and a willingness to travel, usually stated as a percentage. Many also expect you to live in or near the territory. If these apply to you, mention them in your summary or near your contact details instead of burying them at the bottom of the page.

Send a cover letter that sells

A short letter that connects your results to what the company needs is already proof that you can sell. The Mi Resumen AI assistant drafts a cover letter from your resume and the job posting, and you review it before sending. More ideas in our guide on how to write a cover letter.

Frequently asked questions

How do I write a sales resume with no sales experience?

Look for times you persuaded someone or worked toward a target: recruiting members for a club, retail or event sales, fundraising, a marketing internship. Quantify them even if they’re small and aim for SDR, BDR or junior account executive roles. Our guide to a resume with no experience has more ideas.

Can I share revenue numbers from my previous employer?

Only if they aren’t confidential, and check any nondisclosure agreement you signed. When in doubt, use quota attainment, growth percentages, number of accounts or your ranking on the team instead of dollar amounts. They show your level just as well without exposing your former employer.

Which CRM should I mention?

The one you used every day and the one named in the job posting: Salesforce, HubSpot, Pipedrive, Zoho CRM or Microsoft Dynamics 365. Say what you did with it (logging opportunities, forecasting, reporting) and add LinkedIn Sales Navigator or other prospecting tools you relied on. Applicant tracking systems search for those names exactly as written.

What’s the difference between a sales rep, an account executive and an SDR?

Titles vary by company, but in general an SDR or BDR books meetings through prospecting, an account executive owns the deal from discovery to close, and an account manager grows existing customers. Sales representative is a broad title used across industries, often for territory or outside sales roles. Use the title from the posting in your headline if it matches what you actually do.

What if I missed quota one year?

You don’t have to highlight it. Report your strong years or an honest cumulative figure (“exceeded quota in four of five years”), and if it comes up in the interview, explain the context (a territory change, an industry downturn, a product launch) and what you did to recover.

How long should a sales resume be?

One page if you have less than about 10 years of experience, two at most if you have a longer track record worth showing. Recruiters skim, so lead each job with your quota attainment and biggest wins, and cut the duties every rep performs.
